The government has launched a new consultation on proposals to introduce new Permitted Development Rights (PDRs) for temporary, low impact ground investigations and surveys that support electricity network infrastructure in England.
The consultation is now open and closes at 11.59pm on the 4th of September.
If introduced, the changes could allow certain boreholes, trial pits, geophysical and environmental surveys to be carried out within the need for a planning application, helping to reduce delays at the early stages of electricity network projects while retaining environmental safeguards.
For landowners, developers and infrastructure stakeholders, this could have many implications where their land is affected by the proposed grid reinforcement, new cable routes or other changes to electricity network works.
